The 'Orlando Gibbons Project' is the brainchild of Bill Hunt, director and general editor of Fretwork Editions, and himself a founder member of Fretwork. Three groups are involved in the project: the Magdalena Consort itself, the viol consort Fretwork and the early brass ensemble His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts.

Whether you are a lover of music for voices or viols, or if you share our love of this beautiful and expressive repertoire - one of the great glories of English music - please consider helping us when the time comes for the next recording in this special series.

As David Stancliff observed in his review of the Gibbons disc for Early Music Review (one review among many praising the disc, and expressing eager anticipation for the next recordings in the series, including a 'Critics' Choice accolade from Gramophone):

"This is the finest recording of this quintessentially English music that we are likely to have, and I urge everyone to start collecting these volumes as they appear over the coming years. This is a real treat, and an impressive master-class in how these texts should be declaimed."
